Dolly Rebecca Parton was created on
January 19 1946 in Pittman Center (Tennessee). She was born to Avie Lee Parton
and Robert Lee Parton in Sevierville. Parton is a homewife and Parton is a
farmer of tobacco. At the age of 12, she began performing on Knoxville TV and
at 13 she had already begun recording on a small label , and was performing on
the Grand Ole Opry. She graduated from high school in 1964 before moving to
Nashville to begin her country singing journey. Carl Dean, an asphalt-paving
businessman, fell in love with her, and they were married on May 30th in 1966.
Her singing in 1967 caught the interest of Porter Wagoner, who hired her to
appear on his show, The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She stayed with the show
for seven years. Their duets were a hit and she performed with his group on the
Grand Ole Opry; she also sold and toured records. Her hit "Joshua"
was released at the top spot in 1970 was her biggest hit single. She decided to
do it alone, even though she still recorded duets with the singer. The singer
left him to be a singer-songwriter on her own in 1974. Dolly achieved immense
fame as a songwriter/singer. Dolly received many Country Music Association
awards (1968 1970, 1970 and 1971, 1975, 1976). The petite (5'0") beauty
was an easy fit for television. By the mid-1970s, Dolly was frequently
appearing on television specials, talk shows, and was even receiving her own
Dolly (1976). Dolly received her first Grammy award in 1977 for Best Female
Country Vocal Performance. Dolly's first film appearance was in 9-to-5 (1980)
In the film, she won an Oscar nomination for the song's title, as well as
Grammy awards 2 and 3. She also received Grammy awards 2, 3, Best Country Song
and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, for the track "Nine to Five."
She got more fame for her role in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982)
and in Rhinestone (1984) with the song "Tennessee Homesick Blues".
Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire, worth $100 million. In 1986, she
launched Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was to
celebrate her Smoky Mountain upbringing. She appeared as herself in Dolly, the
Dolly (1987) TV show. In the episode "Trio", she won the Best Country
